The Western Harbour

Western Harbor (Västra Hamnen)

Bo01, Dockan, Turning Torso, Stapelbäddsparken, Flagghusen and Varvsstaden. It’s all here. It doesn’t matter if you’re just having a good time with your friends or would like to grab a cup of coffee with your dearest.
To be able to enjoy the charm of Western Harbor requires that the weather will be pretty good. It is situated geographically in such a place so that it’s very windy. This is not much of a problem but you will have a more peaceful visit if it is good weather. Then you can take the opportunity to be outside, maybe even take a swim in the sea.
Sweden's tallest building, Turning Torso, is located in Western Harbor. It's definitely worth going past it. Look up towards the top and you will guaranteed be impressed. The 190 meter tall building is designed by architect Santiago Calatrava who is also famous for designing the Olympic Stadium of Athens. The tower consists of 54 stories divided into nine cubes.

Not too long ago, the Western Harbor was nothing but an industrial area but today it is growing exponentially, with new houses in attractive design. It's cool to
just walk around and look at the nicely-designed houses.

Tips in restaurants and cafes:

Espresso House - Exactly as Espresso House says theirselves: ¨Looking for the perfect break? In that case, just say congratulations and welcome you to Espresso House. ¨ Indeed it’s a good coffee shop, not too expensive and tastes good but it’s too impersonal.  It is understandable because it is such a big company, but are you looking for something cozy, you should look further.

Bar Italia - Bar Italia is a popular picnic spot during the summer season. It is not too expensive and they have delicious ice cream. A hot day it’s really nice to stop by for an delicious Italian ice cream on their terrace.

Årstiderna by the sea - Restaurant Årstiderna, which means Seasons, is one of Malmo’s most exclusive restaurants. The seasons have opened a second restaurant located in Dockan. The menu is international classics and goes hand in hand with love for the region and seasonal ingredients. In Årstiderna is something to enjoy at any occasion, a relaxed business lunch, private celebrations or a romantic dinner for two. It’s worth visiting.

Western Harbor is located just a few hundred meters away from the train station. It’s easy to get here from Denmark and there are good bus connections between Western Harbor and other districts in Malmo, but do not forget to check what time they go before you go there!
